Milad Bahi is a musician who plays the instrument Oud. Milad was born in Syria in 1983. He started his musical studies with learning the oud in 1999 with Dr. Muhammad Zaza in Qamishli. In 2002, he moved to Damascus, where he continued studying the oud with Professor Essam Rafea, along with Professor Hussein Sabsaby.

In 2003, he joined the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, graduating in 2008 with a specialization in the oud under the supervision of the musical expert Askar Alekberov. During his education, he has received workshop training from prominent musicians such as Mehmet Betmez and Necati Celik in Damascus, and has attended private lessons with musical masters such as Mehmet Betmez and Yurdal Tokcan in Istanbul, and Professor Naseer Shamma in Cairo.

Milad worked as an assistant professor for singing at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus from 2009 to 2014, in addition to his work as a professor of the oud in several musical institutes in Damascus. He presented many concerts, both as a solo player and as a member of a band, domestically in Syria, and internationally in Egypt, Belgium, Canada, Iran, Lebanon, Italy, Japan, and Sweden.

Milad had the honour of playing the oud for Mrs. Mayada Bseliss during a religious recital in Homs, Syria in 2004, as well as accompanying artist Abeer Nehme in a concert at the Agafi Festival in Lattakia, Syria in 2006. He also participated as a performer in the choir of the group “Qouqoyo”, led by Mr. Nuri Iskandar, on the stage of the Opera House in Damascus during the Oriental Landscapes festival in 2011.

Milad played with the National Symphony Orchestra in Syria from 2006 to 2008 and participated in recording a Syriac album titled Syriac Rites, which was performed by the soloist Abeer Nehme and led by the chief conductor Missak Baghboudarian. He also played soundtracks for TV series such as “Souk El Waraq” and “Tala’ El Fada” in 2011 with the composer Radwan Nasri.

Milad moved to Sweden in 2014 and settled in the province of Sörmland, where he actively began his musical journey in 2015, participating in a cultural project led by artist Ola Öhlin. As a result of this collaboration, Milad played in the theaters of libraries and museums in Sweden on many occasions, most importantly at the Parkfestival concert in Eskilstuna.

In that same year, Milad became the oud player in the Flen International Orchestra, Flen Världsorkester, and recorded two albums which included approximately 35 musicians of different nationalities, led by guitarist Lutte Berg, who participated with Milad in oud-guitar duets on occasion. Milad also participated in many artistic projects such as in music workshops and concerts held by Scenkonst Sörmland, in addition to his participation as a guest player in some orchestras, such as the Brokar band, and the Symphony orchestra in Norrköping.

Milad plays the oud for the Syriac Voice Trio, “Kolo Suryoyo,” along with Qanun player, Feras Sharestan, and Chanter Maryam Al Shamani. The band was founded in 2019 and has performed live concerts in Tokyo University in Japan, as well as recorded a musical concert on the radio station in Sweden. The band has also played at a musical concert in Rönnells in Stockholm, and in Musikens Hus in Katrineholm

Milad works as a teacher of the oud in cultural schools in Eskilstuna and Flen, and occasionally leads oud courses at the Studieframjandet in Flen and at the ABF in Eskilstuna.
